BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

The record of the tallest tree in Asia has been refreshed this week, as a team of Chinese researchers announced that they discovered a giant cypress measuring 102.3 meters in Tibet Autonomous Region.

The record-breaking high tree, called Cupressus torulosa, was found at the national nature reserve of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Bome County, Nyingchi City, during a scientific investigation led by Peking University in May.

Cranberry lovers may have the chance to savor the fruit with an out-of-this-world origin: A new variety will be developed from seeds that survived a trip to space.

When China's Shenzhou-14 taikonauts returned to Earth last December, they brought home some packages of 50,000 cranberry seeds grown in space. It is part of the harvest of a 6-month-long breeding experiment aboard the Tiangong space station. Scientists say that the seeds, exposed to deep space, will induce genetic mutations that may create superior varieties on the ground.

A total of 53 fossilized dinosaur footprints dating back to about 120 million years ago were discovered in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to local authorities.

The footprints, with the biggest measuring 43 centimeters long, were found in the Otog Dinosaur Trace National Nature Reserve in the city of Ordos.
